During the Great Depression in the USA, women came up with an idea how to make clothes for their families. They decided to use empty flour sacks, which were made of cotton. In their turn, flour manufacturers started to use more colorful patterns for the sacks.
#7 335 year-long war
This was a war between the Netherlands and the Isles of Scilly, which was a part of Great Britain. It lasted more than 3 centuries without a single shot. Actually, the war ended 2 months after it was started in 1651. However, due to the uncertain validity of the declaration of war peace was finally declared in 1986.
