5 weird foods through history
Here are five foods that used to be popular but today sound eccentric, to say the least!
#1 Flamingo tongues as a delicacy
In ancient Roman times the aristocracy used to enjoy Flamingo tongues as a reflection of ultimate luxury. The bird was rare and majestic and sacrificing it to the gods was a sign of wealth and status.
#2 Roosters and beer
In the late 18th century beer used to taste bad enough that people added some chicken flavor to it. There was also a superstitious aspect to this practice. People believed that the vitality of the bird would be transmitted to the drinker.
#3 Ambergris
This is a weird one. Ambergris is a fatty substance that is produced deep inside of a whale. It’s believed that it helps the animal pass larger objects it may have inadvertently swallowed. That’s actually how the substance itself gets out of the whale for human consumption.
